"Where imaginations play, learning happens." (Thomas & Brown, 2011)

Many educators tell me that they think PLAY is important for learning but they don't have "time" for it. Of course, this kind of statement reveals an underlying belief that learning can happen without play, and/or that play is somehow at odds with "real" learning. I'm interested in how you understand "play" and how you incorporate it in your teaching in meaningful ways. The questions that follow probe a little into how you meaningfully incorporate, assess and value play-full teaching.

Can you give a specific example of how your students learn through play/playfullness in your teaching context?

Questioning and experimentation are powerful forms of play. How do you encourage these practices with your students? How do you assess/evaluate their questions, what-iff'ing, experimentation?

"Only when we care about experimentation, play, and questions more than efficiency, outcomes, and answers do we have a space that is truly open to the imagination." (Thomas & Brown, (Eds.), 2011, p. 118). What are your thoughts on this quote? I'm curious...
